Organizing a Successful Cornhole Competition

Cornhole has exploded in popularity since the turn of the millennium, with recreational leagues and even professional tournaments popping up around the country. The American Cornhole Association (ACA) lists a map of tournaments and events on its website.

The game is played by two teams of two players who alternate throwing the bean bag underhand onto the other board. The first player to touch all four bags wins the round. If a player misses all the bags or their throw is blocked by the opponent’s board, both players must collect the bags and rethrow. If any discrepancies arise during the match, the team captains should call a Certified Official.

Teams may begin the game with a coin flip or by playing rock, paper, scissors to decide which player will get to throw first. The winner of the coin toss also chooses which side of the table they will play on. Players are not allowed to make distracting movements or noises while playing, and if a player feels there’s an issue with their opponent’s behavior they must alert a Certified Official immediately.

One way to cut down the cost of your tournament is to invite corporate sponsors to provide food, drinks, supplies, and funds in exchange for name/brand recognition at the event. This can be a great way to build a following for your nonprofit organization. You can also offer booth space to vendors who would like to sell their products or services to the participants of your event.
