How to Make a Bean Bag Liner

A bean bag liner is a second fabric inside the beanbag that holds the beans or filling material. The liner keeps the beans or filling material from spilling out if you open and close your bean bag too much, and it’s also easy to remove for washing if needed.

It’s recommended to use a cotton or other woven fabric for the bean bag liner because it’s strong and can stand up to rough play. It’s also best to sew both a straight and zig-zag stitch because it will add strength to the seam making it less likely that your bean bag will split at the seam.

Cut the fabric into two equal sized squares, then sew the short sides together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Leave the long side open for adding your filler and zipping it shut.

When you’re done sewing the corners of your bean bag, turn it right-side out and push out the corners with a closed pair of scissors or a special tool if you have one. Then pin the opening closed, and stitch it closed with a zig-zag stitch, using the edge of your presser foot as a guide and backing up when you start and stop.

You can make a small or large DIY bean bag from your choice of fabrics and fillers. Be sure to keep your diy bean bag out of reach of small children and pets, since the beans or filler are a choking hazard.
