Bean Bag Ultimate Sack

You may think of bean bag chairs as the smushed-down kind that kids use to play video games, but modern bean bags are far more sophisticated and comfortable. From 5-foot giant loungers to small ones for children, there are many sizes and types of bean bag chair available. The most important factor is the material that the chair is filled with, as this determines comfort, durability and environmental impact.

Most bean bag chairs are filled with EPS beans, also known as EPP beads or polystyrene pellets. These are long lasting, cheap, light-weight and they resist heat & moisture. This makes them the preferred filling for bean bags, especially those that are going to be used indoors or outside.

Using other types of filler for bean bag chairs can be problematic, as they require much more maintenance. Natural fillers like sand, rice and sawdust are heavy, which can make it hard to move the chair, as well as stress the seams. They are also difficult to mould to the body, which can cause discomfort.

Another option is to use shredded foam. This can be obtained as off-cuts from manufacturers for a cheap price, and is great for re-fluffing older bean bags that are starting to flatten. Shredded foam is also environmentally friendly, and it can be mixed with EPS beans to provide a more comfortable feel to the chair. However, it can retain water and can lead to mould if the bean bag is being used outdoors.
