Bean Bag Dance Routines For Early Childhood Education

A dance routine is a fun way to help children build their coordination, balance and body identification skills. Using props like ribbons and bean bags adds an extra element of challenge. They also help kids focus on moving their bodies to the music. This article shares a song, a bean bag dance game and additional ideas that can be used with young children to help them develop these important skills!

The first activity is a simple circle time song with a built in bean bag dance. Just pass the bean bag around the circle with your little ones as the song plays! This is a great song for preschool age children and can be played with groups or just a few kids at home.

Passing the beanbag is a great gross motor skill for children to practice, especially with their hands. It can be made even more challenging by adding in other types of games. For example, have your kids take turns tossing a bean bag onto a set of pins or other targets such as cones or empty plastic bottles. You can even keep score to make it a bit more competitive.

Another fun way to use a bean bag is to have your students bounce the bag on their foot (similar to hacky sack) without it hitting the floor. This can be done individually or in pairs and helps to develop balance, coordination and foot-eye coordination. It can also be used as an endurance challenge and the goal can be to see who can bounce it the longest or for the most amount of times.
